Don’t get me wrong, I love baking a gooey chocolate cake or crunchy-topped crème brûlée, but sometimes I just need a quick treat to satisfy my nagging sweet tooth. So when I stumbled across a recipe for yogurt custard toast — a food trend that’s been making the rounds online lately — I had to try it!
How to Make Yogurt Custard Toast
As someone who spends a lot of time looking up recipes online, custard toast was bound to come across my radar. With over 185 million views on TikTok alone, it’s clear that this dish, which simply involves mixing yogurt and an egg into a custard topping for toast, is quickly becoming a favorite among home cooks.
There are loads of custard toast recipes floating around, but the one that really stood out to me comes from @myhealthydish because she eyeballs all the ingredients rather than measuring them, yet the toast still turns out amazing.
In a small bowl, she combines a heaping dollop of plain Greek yogurt, one egg, a few sprinkles of ground cinnamon, and a generous squeeze of agave. (Feel free to use another sweetener if you prefer, like white sugar or honey.) Next, she spoons the custard on top of two thick slices of white bread and places them on a nonstick baking sheet. Each slice is then topped with a spoonful of frozen mixed berries and baked at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes, or until golden brown and the custard is set. Let it cool for about two minutes, drizzle a little more agave over the top, and enjoy!

I followed this recipe exactly, except that I made mine in the air fryer, which was quicker than waiting for my oven to preheat. Also, I used sourdough bread instead of white. After taking the first bite, I was immediately in love with the texture contrast of the crunchy toast and soft yet firm custard. The earthy taste of the cinnamon shined through without being overpowering, thanks to the sweetness of the agave. I topped my custard toast with frozen blueberries before cooking it, and those added a slightly tart flavor as well.
