Consisting of a mattress pad, a control unit, and a remote control, the chiliPAD uses water to keep you cool (or warm, if you’d rather) all night long. The mattress pad is what they call “hydropowered,” meaning water flows through it using a patented cooling and warming technology.
Simple to use, the chiliPAD plugs in (just like an electric blanket) and only requires that you add water to the reservoir tank in the thermal control unit. When the water level gets low, it automatically shuts off. A digital temperature display on the unit automatically dims, so it won’t disturb you at night.
Available in versions to fit twin, twin XL, queen, king, and California king mattresses, the chiliPAD is covered in a soft, breathable poly-cotton blend. Inside the pad is a fluffy poly fill and silicone hydronic tubing, which regulates the temperature. The whole thing is fully machine washable, and there are no electric wires to get tangled up in, or to increase your exposure to electromagnetic fields. The remote control is powered with two AA batteries.
Because what’s comfortable for you depends on multiple factors, including room temperature, humidity, and your individual preference, the chiliPAD allows you to set the temperature anywhere between 55 and 115 degrees Fahrenheit (13 to 46 degrees Celsius). Experiment with what works best for you and you’ll be able to keep your bed’s temperature exactly where you like it, for the most restorative sleep possible.
Worried that your partner won’t appreciate you turning the bed into a cooling zone? Worry not! The queen, king, and California king chiliPADs come with two thermal control units, one connected to each half, so you can each adjust your own temperature.
One satisfied reviewer, who bought the sleep system for his wife, reported that before the chiliPAD, he slept in thermal pajamas while his wife overheated to the point of sweating. “This thing is great,” he wrote. “The coldest setting is way too cold for her, so the thing should work for anyone. My wife has a medical condition where temperature regulation takes a lot of energy. With this, she’s less tired in the morning.”
Another chiliPAD user shared that due to her hot flashes and night sweats, she was lucky to get four hours of sleep per night — far less than the recommended amount of sleep for the average adult. “I bought this product as a last-ditch effort before talking to my doctor about hormone replacement therapy,” she wrote. “I slept like a baby the first night! I am back to sleeping under covers and I have not had one hot flash. I now can’t wait to go to bed because it is my cool, happy place. The absolute lack of night sweats while lying on this pad is worth the money.”
