With most of us stuck at home and looking for fun projects to pass the time, tie-dying has become all the rage again . If you also happen to be a fan of red wine, you should totally try a clever twist on the trend that’s been making the rounds on social media lately.
We all know how annoying it is to spill red wine on our clothes, especially anything white, but this actually encourages us to splash it around on purpose to create a gorgeous violet and rosy hue. Plus, if you already have one or two tops that you’ve retired due to pesky red wine stains, this is the perfect way to perk them up and put them back in rotation!
A popular new video on TikTok shows how one woman scrunched up her white sweatshirt and tied it off with rubber bands, like you would any other tie dye craft, then soaked it in a few hefty glugs of wine (with plenty leftover to sip on) and let it heat in the oven at 170 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes to an hour (the bigger the clothing item, the longer it takes).
Warning: She also uses some colorful language as she describes the process, but there’s no denying the super-cute results! Take a look:
How simple is that? Michigan wine makers at Chateau Grand Traverse also offer a more in-depth guide on how to achieve specific dye designs using leftover vino. Or, you can follow the tips from bloggers at Bright Cellars to dye clothing one solid shade rather than tying off sections for a delightfully pink hue.
Whichever way you go, we’re just glad to finally have a creative way to revive our wine-stained shirts and other clothing items that would otherwise get relegated to the back of our closet (or end up in the trash). And if we can enjoy a glass or two of our favorite blend while we do it, even better!
