I’ve been on a major eggs Benedict kick lately, making them almost every weekend. There’s just nothing better than a runny egg yolk mixing with the creamy Hollandaise sauce and fluffy biscuit (or toasted English muffin!). But as delicious as the poached egg is, it’s also a hassle make perfectly. I usually end up wasting half the egg whites in the boiling water since I can’t always get the technique just right. But now that I’ve found this hack for perfect poached eggs, my weekend treat has gotten a lot easier.
Poached eggs are usually cooked by bringing a pot of water to a gentle boil and dropping the egg into the resulting whirlpool. As the water spins, the egg whites curl around the yolk as it cooks. The result is a runny yolk enveloped by a cloud of fluffy egg whites. It’s the signature part of an eggs Benedict, which features an English muffin or a biscuit topped with some kind of meat (or seafood!) with a poached egg on top. The three are then smothered in Hollandaise sauce.
It’s my absolute favorite breakfast, but I hate the hassle of making poached eggs. Luckily, this hack for making them in the air fryer seriously cuts down the cook time — and difficulty! All you have to do is gather your eggs and a few ramekins, or any small bowls that can handle some heat. Spray your ramekins with cooking spray and add one egg per bowl. Top the eggs with about two tablespoons of water, then set the ramekins in the air fryer.
Get ready to feast, because this trick is so quick! The eggs just need to be in the air fryer for four or five minutes, at 360 degrees Fahrenheit. If the egg isn’t as done as you’d like, pop it back in for one-minute intervals, checking regularly to make sure your egg doesn’t overcook.
