Anyone who’s ever sat down for dinner with a child knows they can be pretty particular about what goes on their plate. Even if they aren’t super picky, most kiddos like to keep things simple with nugget or noodle-based food. Prince George is apparently a fan of the latter — but with a slightly fancy twist fitting a future king.
According to UK celebrity chef Aldo Zilli, George’s favorite meal is a spaghetti carbonara, a classic Italian dish typically made with eggs, lots of parmesan cheese, and topped with bacon. It’s not exactly buttered noodles, but we can see why the little royal loves it!
Zilli works with George’s dad, Prince William, as an ambassador of Centrepoint, a charity that supports young homeless people. The chef told Daily Mail, “[William’s] little boy’s favorite is spaghetti carbonara, so I’m waiting for the call to go and cook it for him.” He added, “If George has my carbonara, he will never have another one, so I need to go and make it, let’s get the ball rolling, send me to the palace to cook!”
That sounds like a challenge we’re sure George would be happy to accept. This royal culinary news isn’t too surprising, of course, considering Kate has talked about whipping up other noodle-based favorites with her kids.
While visiting classrooms as part of the Ivy Learning Trust last year, she told reporters that they love making “cheesy pasta” together. “She was telling us how much her children love cooking and how they cook for her,” Matthew Kleiner-Mann, chief executive of the Ivy Learning Trust, explained. “One stirs the flour, one puts the milk and butter in. And they make salads and stuff.” This recipe sounds more like good ole mac and cheese than carbonara, but maybe they toss some bacon on for George.
We’re sure making meals together has been one of the silver linings of lockdown for the royal family (when they aren’t dealing with homeschooling). Zilli might want to consider offering a cooking class rather than just dishing up the meal himself!
