Jessica Simpson never shied away from sharing how much her body changed throughout her most recent pregnancy. She would often post photos online of her swollen feet, ankles, and growing belly. Just six months after welcoming her third child, Birdie Mae, Simpson surprised fans even more than her puffed appendages ever could with a jaw-dropping 100 pound post-baby weight loss.
“Yes, I tipped the scales at 240,” the mom of three (Maxwell Drew, 7, Ace Knute, 6, and Birdie) admitted. Now, her trainer, Harley Pasternak, has revealed what exactly helped Simpson shed so many pounds in such a short amount of time.
“It’s not just about workouts,” Pasternak told US Weekly, “You don’t lose weight doing bicep curls and lunges. You lose weight by changing your diet, hitting your step goal, [and] working on your sleep. Those are the things she did so well.”
Simpson followed the food plan Pasternak laid out in his book, The Body Reset Diet: Power Your Metabolism, Blast Fat, and Shed Pounds in Just 15 Days ($11.98, Amazon). That meant a focus on foods high in protein, nutritious vegetables and fruits, and snacking on things like a handful of almonds or a small side of green beans with Parmesan cheese.
The diet allows for three meals and two snacks, so Simpson wasn’t depriving herself. However, there is one thing that Pasternak recommended abstaining from: alcoholic beverages. “I am pretty sure she would not have been as incredibly successful in this physique transformation if she was drinking,” he explained. “There are certain things that are more conducive to weight loss and certain things that are going to hurt you when losing weight, and alcohol is certainly one of them.”
On top of all this healthy eating, Pasternak also encouraged Simpson to walk at least 12,000 steps a day. Although more recent studies have claimed you don’t need to take quite so many strolls to see similar benefits, there’s no denying it’s worked out well for Simpson!
