Sophia Loren has been taking our breath away with her beauty for decades now. Although a lot of that likely has to do with her good genes, apparently we can all pick up one of her secrets to aging so gracefully at our grocery store: mint leaves.
During her heyday in the 1950s and ‘60s the now 86-year-old actress would crush up mint leaves to create a paste and apply it under her eyes to ward off dark circles, reports the Daily Mail. Taking a look back at her work in movies like Marriage, Italian Style, and Houseboat proves just how well it worked for her!
Plus, judging by how great Loren looks in the photo below taken just last year, we’d bet she’s still relying on the natural beauty trick today:
We certainly wouldn’t mind looking even half as gorgeous and vibrant when we’re closing in on our ninth decade! Loren isn’t slowing down in her career, either, with a new film, The Life Ahead, set to premiere on Netflix in November. It follows the actress as a Holocaust survivor living in Italy who takes a 12-year-old “street kid” under her wing despite his attempt at robbing her. We wouldn’t be surprised if this dramatic role earns her yet another Oscar nomination.
In the meantime, we’ll definitely be trying out mint leaves for dark circles. On top of being all-natural, it’s also totally budget-friendly at just a couple bucks for a few sprigs (Buy at Walmart, $1.98). Considering you don’t need much — just enough to form a thin layer under the eye — a little will go a long way. The moisture from the leaves makes it easy to form a nice paste texture all on their own while crushing them up.
Of course, as with anything being applied near our peepers, we all need to be careful to not to get any of it actually in our eyes. We can imagine that would quite a bit less refreshing.
Here’s hoping we can say “arrivederci” to dark circles like the lovely Italian actress!
