From long days at the beach, to barbecues that last late into the warm night, to family road trips that involve stopping at as many swimming holes as possible, summer is all about enjoying life. Though it may not fall into the creating lasting memories category, here at First for Women, this time of year we get pretty excited about Amazon Prime Day, too.
Prime Day is an unofficial holiday that kicked off today to celebrate Amazon’s birthday by offering slashed prices on a whole lot of loot. We’re getting in the spirit by adding all the things we have been admiring — but didn’t feel like paying full price for — to our carts. Some of us are looking to inspire our inner chef, others are hoping for a better night’s sleep, or to make our hair look like we just stepped out of the salon without the price tag.
Scroll through to see what will be arriving at our editors’ doorsteps in those ubiquitous black and blue boxes this week!
Olaplex Prime Day
Olaplex Hair Perfector No 3 Repairing Treatment
Where to Buy: $19.60, Amazon
Lili, director: "The first thing that I couldn’t resist popping into my cart was Olaplex Hair Perfector No 3 Repairing Treatment, which turns color-treated hair back into what it felt like the day you walked out of the salon. This magical bond-repairing treatment is what my stylist swears by and uses on her own dyed-blond hair. It’s pretty pricey at $28 for 3.3 oz, but almost seems like a good deal at $19.60. It’s certainly cheaper than going back to the salon."
Roomba from iRobot
Where to Buy: $229.99, Amazon
Lili, director: "One of my fantasies is being able to have a housekeeper so that at the end of a busy work day, I don’t have to start my second job of picking up after my family. Even tweens who try very hard still leave messes. But if I had a robot vacuum? That might satisfy a little bit of that fantasy. The Roomba from iRobot is 39 percent off today ($229.99 on sale) and it just might be in my cart right now."
Vitamix Prime Day
Where to Buy: $179.95, Amazon
Ashley, assistant editor: "I’ve been long waiting to add a Vitamix blender to my health and wellness routine! Normally priced well above $200, the Vitamix blender offers superior blending for everything from spices to soups. With just this one kitchen tool, I’ll be able to chop, blend, emulsify, puree, grind, and heat (yes, you can make hot soup right in the blender!) anything I want. The best part? This blender also has a self-cleaning setting, so I don’t have to spend extra time washing dishes!"
Linen Sheets Prime Day
Brooklinen Linen Sheets
Where to Buy: $119.20, Amazon
Megan, senior editor: "I was given a pair of linen sheets a few years ago, and I haven’t been able to go back to regular cotton ones ever since. They don’t feel as smooth when you first touch them. But once you slip into bed, the more granular natural fibers feel soft against your body, and soothing in a way I’d never experienced. They stay cool in the summer, cozy in the winter, and feel luxurious all year round. The linen sheets from Brooklinen have a bit of a cult-following (yes, sheets!), but I’ve never wanted to fork out the dough for them. At $30 off the original price, though, I’m willing to splurge — I’m just worried I might never get out of bed!"
Mexican Cookbook Prime Day
Where to Buy: $18.32, Amazon
Jess, web editor: "I’m keeping my eye on this cookbook of Mexican recipes when its deal starts tomorrow. Other cookbooks have gone for about 40 to 50 percent off, so I’m hopeful I can snag this for a similar price tag. I’ve gotten really into cooking lately and Mexican food as been my favorite cuisine for as long as I can remember. Living in NYC doesn’t offer me a lot of restaurant options for authentic Mexican (or Tex-Mex), so hopefully this can help me make some for myself at home! Taking a peek at the preview already has me sold on the scrumptious-looking salsa recipes alone."
Sony Headphones Prime Day
Sony Bluetooth Headphones
Where to Buy: $89.99, Amazon
Chris, senior editor: "Living in New York City can be sensory overload so I've always been interested in some noise-cancelling headphones. And at just $89.99, these Sony wireless bluetooth headphones are right in my zone of what I'm willing to pay to be able to hear my music, movies, and TV instead of the chaos of the subway. The fact that they come with a built-in microphone for hands-free calling as well as an Alexa voice assistant is just icing on the cake!"
Wopet Prime Day
Wopet Pet Food Dispenser
Where to Buy: $89.95, Amazon
Jaclyn, wed editor: "I’ve always dreamed about being able to feed my family’s cats while I was busy at work or out running errands. There’s nothing worse than seeing those sad hungry eyes whenever I walk through the door! But thanks to this handy food dispenser from Wopet, my problem has an easy solution. The automatic pet feeder allows owners to schedule up to four feedings for their fur babies per day. The best part? I can even record a custom message for Whiskey and Bellini to get the kitties excited about lunchtime. Just imagine them hearing me say “Good boy!” and “Good girl!” when I’m not even there. How sweet is that?"
Tempur Pedic Prime Day
Tempur-Pedic Mattress Topper
Where to Buy: $260.99, Amazon
Jaclyn, wed editor: "I’ve always imagined what it would be like to fall asleep on a cloud. A soft — yet supportive — cloud. Judging by the looks of this comforting cushion, I’d figure it’s something like this mattress topper from Tempur-Pedic. Considering I spend about a third of my lifetime sleeping, I want it to be the comfiest and coziest sleep imaginable. I just might treat myself to that!"
