The best tiny houses will make you forget all about those huge mansions that used to seem so desirable. Though some folks may be a bit skeptical about fitting everything they know and love inside tiny homes, these beautiful photos just might convince you to drop everything and jump on the tiny house movement.
What is the tiny house movement?
A little more than a decade ago, the idea of building quality homes with less square footage but with truly usable spaces began to take hold, according to the AARP. Sometimes called the “Not So Big House” approach, the tiny house movement has gained attention and popularity due to a variety of factors, including the state of the economy, the struggling housing market, and the growing ethic of reducing and reusing. Typically measuring 100 to 400 square feet — but sometimes as small as 80 square feet or as large as 700 square feet — these micro houses aim to fill all the basic amenities that an average-size house does, all while using less space to do so.
But don’t think that these tiny homes are nothing but bare bones, with nothing to offer but basic places to eat, sleep, and use the restroom. Much like any other living space, a tiny house can be customized to fit a homeowner’s personal tastes, and you can make it as minimalistic or as elaborate as your heart desires. From stained glass windows to spiral staircases, there are virtually endless ways to make a tiny house become your home sweet home. No wonder there’s now an HGTV show called “Tiny House, Big Living.”
Though living in a tiny house certainly isn’t for everyone, the lifestyle comes with many benefits, such as saving the money, energy, and time that you’d spend on a larger home. Plus, if you’re the creative type, you have the unique opportunity to create something tangible, livable, and truly one-of-a-kind — and these fabulous tiny house pictures prove it. Beautiful Tiny House
Meet Tiffany, the tiny home. Inspired by a 1920s craftsman style bungalow house, this 270-square-foot beauty is owned by Tim and Samantha, a self-described "tiny home couple with normal 9-to-5 jobs." From the custom stained glass windows to its gorgeous shade of blue, this tiny house is obviously a sight for sore eyes. But as Tim and Samantha explain on their blog, Tiffany boasts much more than just good looks: "OK, we get it, she's pretty. Well tribe, she's also smart! Encompassed within Tiffany is a Lutron Caseta wireless system. This means we are able to literally talk to our Amazon Alexa and Nest products in order to control features throughout the home." Impressed yet? If not, you will be once you see this tiny home's interior.

The tiny home's interior design is just as lovely as it is practical. The kitchen area showcases attractive walnut butcher block counter tops, as well as a strategically placed 10.3-cubic-foot fridge and a 20-inch propane stove. Meanwhile, the living room area offers a cozy bench with matching foot stools that can be easily stored beneath the seating. Speaking of storing items, there are many genius hidden storage spaces throughout this tiny house — including sliding drawers under each step of the stairs and the 12-inch deep custom headboard behind the queen-size bed up high in the master loft. When it comes to tiny home living, it seems like this pair truly thought of everything!

Unique Tiny House
Say hello to the tiny timber house. Owned by a Wyoming couple who loves the tiny house movement as well as the great outdoors, this "husband-built" home features a timber frame on wheels, with doors and windows built to an incredibly specific size. On the theme of extremely particular design, take a closer look at the front of the tiny house and you'll see an even tinier shed — which is used to house the couple's 55-gallon water tank and their propane tank, which fuel both the hot water heater and the stove. And we have to say, the inside of this tiny home proves that all this extra effort for warmth goes a long way.

Is it just us, or does this used Jotul 602 look like an absolute dream to own on a bitterly cold day? As anyone who's been to Wyoming knows, it can get pretty nippy out there, especially during the winter months. Aside from basking in the warmth from these flames, this couple also has an Ecofan heat powered fan at the ready, which sits on top of their wood stove and keeps the warm air moving throughout their tiny house. All this and an incredibly organized kitchen in the background has us ready to heat up a nice toasty mug of hot cocoa.

Check out Tiny House Breda. Designed and built by the man who owns it, named Remco, this stylish Dutch home puts a newfangled spin on the growing tiny house movement. It was creatively put together with Protex, a synthetic exterior siding that's handled like wood — without any actual wood problems like rotting. The delightfully modern material is described as "highly durable and absolutely maintenance free." In terms of aesthetics, it features a grey cedar look with a bright and colorful door. Nothing like a pop of color to introduce houseguests to what's to come indoors!

Tiny Houses Creative
Creative Tiny House
Take a gander at the Cascade tiny house. Inhabited by "two humans and two dogs," this 200-square-foot abode in Burlington, Vermont is equal parts rustic and innovative. Composed of gorgeous wood and sleek roofing, this charming tiny home looks sturdy enough to handle any wild Northeastern weather that comes its way — even big piles of snow. That said, it did come with a challenge with transporting the home — it apparently took the owners and their intrepid towing team more than an hour just to get their trailer positioned in this specific place. Clearly, this pair and their fur babies will be staying put in this home for a while, but when you see the inside, it definitely doesn't seem like a problem.

The inside of this tiny home is just as inviting as the outside — perhaps even more so. From the cozy seating area to the refreshing houseplants and succulents, this fantastic use of space actually makes us temporarily forget how small it really is (200 square feet, in case you needed a reminder). Speaking of saving space, that home-built couch doubles as storage for even more valuables that aren't on display. And oh, there are many! We lost track of how many beautiful pieces of art and unique artifacts that are showcased here — and it's only one of several gorgeous features of the whole house.

We couldn't be more honored to meet Her Tiny Home. Designed and built by Shalina, a "single mom, designer, maker, collector," this tiny home is truly hers. The 350-square-foot living space on an 8.5-foot-by-32-foot trailer in Northern California is a perfect place for the hardworking graphic designer to unleash her creativity — and play with her young daughter. She writes on her blog, "As a single mom, I’m trying my very best to guide my daughter through her adolescence with intention. My goal in building this house is to provide a peaceful and comforting space for us to call 'home,' while gaining some financial freedom and more time together." And it sure looks like home sweet home inside!

From the cozy patterned cushions on the seating area to the beautiful houseplants gracing the windowsill, Shalina has truly made this tiny house a lovely home for her little girl. Chock full of plenty of storage space as well as two separate bedrooms for her and her daughter for privacy, she obviously took every seemingly small detail into consideration. One of those important details is guests — she was so clever with her use of space that she was able to successfully host an 8-person dinner party in this home. Please Shalina, teach us your ways!
